T
Tower Sites , Inc . :
1 .A
April 22, 1997 APR 2 5 I
Mr. Jim Gregorius
Dane County Planning & Development, Zoning Division C.C. PLANNING&DEVELOPMENT
Room 1 1 6 PROPERTY RECORDS
City-County Building
Madison, WI 53709
Dear Mr. Gregorius:
On December 3, 1996, we applied to the Dane County Land Regulations & Records
Department for a conditional use permit to construct a 190 foot telecommunications tower
in the town of Sun Prairie to support antennas for several wireless services. Prior to our
submission we made a written request to the Federal Aviation Administration to study the
proposed application to see if it will affect navigable airspace in the area of our proposed
tower. The FAA study process typically takes --; •nths to complete. On March 25,
1997 we were granted Conditional Use Permi #1403 or the installation of our facility.
Subsequent to that FAA completed their study an. • -d a determination that the tower we
were proposing could not exceed 177 feet above ground. We are now planning the
construction of a 170 foot tower that can still hold at least three carriers, and allow 7 feet of
room above the top for whip antennas.
Our Conditional Use Permit currently states "tower...shall accommodate,at a minimum height
of 190 feet above grade, the collocation of three additional antenna arrays...". We need the
wording changed to reflect the actual height of 170 feet that will now be used for this
structure. Please note that with a 170 foot tower the three additional antenna arrays cannot
all be placed at the top, the wording should indicate the antenna arrays will be installed at
various heights on the tower. Antenna arrays are typically spaced ten to twenty feet apart
vertically on the tower, and so some of them will be at heights above grade of less than 170
feet.
I understand this change to our C.U.P. will require a future discussion by the Dane County
Zoning and Natural Resources Committee. Please forward our request for the change in
height to that Committee.
Sincerely,
 z" Terry Michaels
U` President
20015 West National Avenue * New Berlin, WI 53146 * (414) 679-2367 (414)
