Herro, Richard Thu, Mar 26 8:20 AM
to Jeff rahn
2345 STH "73"
1 file attached
rch4
pdf 89.6 KB
TO: Jeff Rahn
RE: 2345 STH "73", Parcel Number 0612-211-8430-2,Town of Christiana
ME: Jeff, this email follow our conversation today. You propose to construct an garage over your existing well.
Your project is allowed as long as certain things to protect the sanitary condition of the well.
When a structure is built over a drilled well, it shall have an easily removable access hatch, or provide other
practicable access to allow for pulling and servicing the pump. The well casing pipe shall extend at least 12
inches above ground grade or above the ground-grade floor of the building and shall be sealed watertight at the
point where it extends through the floor. Attached are code specs that detail how a well should be protected
when a driveway is constructed over a well. Your project can be a combination of things to protect the sanitary
condition of the well. Contact me if you have any questions or comments.
(NOTE: Wells are not allowed in basements, unless the basement is a walk-out to grade, without having to go
up a ramp or steps to exit the basement to grade.)
Rick Herro, sanitarian, Public Health-Madison & Dane County
Desk Phone 608-242-6317, Cell Phone 608-235-0953
