These measures include: <br /> - Incorporating the highest safety standards and best practices in the planning, <br /> design and operation of the pipeline, including compliance with extensive <br /> federal pipeline safety regulations administered and enforced by the Pipeline <br /> and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, a unit of the U.S. Department <br /> of Transportation; <br /> • Designing and manufacturing steel pipe and connected facilities with a safety <br /> factor that meets or exceeds federal regulations and applicable technical <br /> standards; <br /> - Thorough inspection of pipeline installation processes during construction; <br /> - Testing the pipeline before operations commence; <br /> - A state-of-the-art pipeline control system that is operated and staffed around <br /> the clock, allowing for safe pipeline shutdown in emergency circumstances; <br /> - Regular inspection and maintenance of the pipelines and facilities by highly- <br /> trained technicians; <br /> - An educational outreach program for landowners, excavators, emergency <br /> responders and public officials regarding the locations of pipelines and <br /> facilities and best practices for emergency response; <br />
