These areas are defined as follows: <br /> SHORELAND: All lands in the unincorporated areas of Dane County which are <br /> within 1,000 feet from the ordinary high water mark of navigable lakes, ponds or <br /> flowages listed in the "Surface Water Resources of Dane County" published by the <br /> Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, or so designated on the United States <br /> Geological Survey Quadrangle Maps, or included on other County Zoning base maps, <br /> and all lands which are within 300 feet of the ordinary high water mark or landward <br /> side of a flood plain of the navigable reaches of rivers and streams. Rivers and streams <br /> shall be presumed to be navigable if they are designated as either continuous or <br /> intermittent waterways on the U.S.G.S. Quadrangle Maps or other zoning base maps <br /> which have been incorporated by reference and made a part of Chapter 11, Dane <br /> County Code of Ordinances. <br /> WETLAND: These areas pertain to all shorelands which are designated as wetland of <br /> 2 acres or more in area on the Wisconsin Wetland Inventory Maps. <br /> FLOOD ZONE: These areas are designated on the Federal Emergency Management <br /> Agency Flood Insurance Rate Maps for Dane County. <br /> Determination of Shoreland, Wetland and/or Flood Zone areas requires a review of <br /> the pertinent maps on file in the Zoning Office. Please call and check out your project <br /> before you begin. The Zoning office telephone number is(608)266-4266. <br /> Zoning permits are required for new drainage ditches, clean-out of existing ditches, <br /> tiling, dredging, filling, grading, excavating, cutting of trees or bushes, etc., that is <br /> proposed in a Shoreland,Wetland or Flood Zone area. A Special Exception Permit or <br /> rezoning to a non-wetland district may also be required before some projects may be <br /> allowed.
