DUFFY BROS • , INC. / DUFFY GRAIN, INC.
N3867 BADEN STREET — PO BOX 250
COLUMBUS, WI 53925
June 24, 1998
Dane County Planning & Development
Room 116
City-County Building
Madison, WI 537709
TO: Dane County Zoning
Duffy Bros. , Inc. is requesting a change in the 2 acres of Duffy property
and approximately 33 acres of Krebs property located in section 2 - Town of
Sun Prairie. It would be to establish a rail load out for grain that would
serve farmers within parts of Dane, Columbia, and Dodge Counties. It is
currently zoned agricultural and we wish to change it to AB. This application
replaces or succeeds an application made 4-5 years ago - Number 5529, and that
application if still on record should be withdrawn.
Lt"ht;,rrc,.J 54,; ) . JcideK zof
The"Statz acreage"'would serve as a road into the Krebs property, plus
} 9
provide space for railroad siding. The load out would be constructed on the
Krebs land and would consist of at least one and probably two bins--capacity
85, 000 bushels--42 foot diameter that would serve to handle grain being
delivered and that would supply continuous loading of rail cars during load
out. Also, a truck scale would be installed, along with two truck dumps or
unload pits form which a high capacity auger would direct the grain to a high
speed grain leg that would fill the bins.
Unloading of the bins would be partially accomplished by gravity feed
back into the same leg which would then load rail cars from above as they pass
the loadout. Our original plans will involve loading 27 car units but space
such as rail siding will allow us to load 54 car units if the need arises.
Future development might include additional storage bins to handle fall
harvest and possibly a grain dryer if the need arises. Presently, we have a
1.25 million bushel elevator with dryer in Columbus, so initially any grain
drying would be done at that facility. The primary purpose of the new
facility will be to attract farm stored grain as farmers sell it.
Possible future plans could include bringing in bulk materials by rail,
such as fertilizer, feed ingredients, or salt to this location that could then
be distributed by truck into the local area.
We would plan to start construction as soon as rezoning is accomplished
and a decision is reached on Twin Lane Road and its ability to handle Truck
Traffic.
D fy Bros. , Inc.
IIhQt1
ohn Duffy
President/Owner
