If you could please review that letter once again and we will
try to address the concerns that arose from the July 14, 1998 workshop meeting. This petition was
delayed so that we would have the time to address the comments and concerns of the committee and
we appreciate that opportunity to provide additional information and background,we have prepared the
ng supplement response.
Bradt Farms Inc.is looking to expand its golf course business;this is not a new golf course as stated in
the staff report The sane people running the existing course will be running the expansion. The
course need is to handle the overflow of the exiting course, which currently rently has to turn people away.
On January 13, 1998 Bradt Farms Inc.was given a STOP WORK ORDER from Dane County Zoning.
This letter was given after Bradt Farms Inc.went to the Dane County Zoning to find out what permits
they needed to construct the expansion. Bradt Farms did start work before they received proper
permits, but they demonstrated enviromi rental concern by placing silt fence and seeding and mulching
areas that drain to the drainage ditches.
SOILS
The staff report states that"nearly all of the golf course site is on prime agricultural soils." This is an
inaccurate statement Class I Prime Agricultural soils(Dresden, Kegonsa, Plano)make up 27% (20
acres)of the 73 acre golf course site. Further, the course will only physically impact 6.3 acres of the 20
acres of prime agricultural soils. (see soils map 4A and site plan layout 4B). The remaining areas of
prime agricultural soils are steep(ranging from 2%to 20%), have never been famed(are forested),or
have not been farmed in recent past (are in permanent grass cover). We propose to maintain these
steep slopes in grass and forest cover to reduce surface water runoff and soil erosion from the site.
The majority of the golf course site, areas within the limits of grading, and areas of golf play are on
