Enter <br /> into a partnership with <br /> the City of Stoughton ' • '+ <br /> and the Town of Pleas- .' <br /> ant Springs to acquire a „_ <br /> y <br /> property that would <br /> _ <br /> connect Stoughton to .' <br /> Viking Park across the _ <br /> • <br /> Yahara River. This <br /> connection would allow <br /> an urban pedestrian <br /> river trail to go through ,a, <br /> Viking Park. <br /> Provide access to shelter house by slope changes and gate-space <br /> modifications. Scheduled completion date is 1997. Construct a unisex <br /> accessible portable toilet facility in 1998. <br /> Walking Iron Park - 320 Acres (Town of Mazomanie) <br /> Walking Iron Park is in northwestern Dane County adjacent to the <br /> Village of Mazomanie. The northwestern portion of this park's 240 <br /> acres contains a native sand prairie and nature trail along Marsh <br /> o- Creek. Black Earth Creek flows through the southeastern portion of <br /> the park and contains an access road and parking area for the village <br /> park. <br /> ,6'1t'j <br /> Recommendations. Acquire an additional 80 acres to the northeast for <br /> resource protection, trail recreation and to establish a more substan- <br /> tial tie between the two existing portions of the park. Possible recre- <br /> ational facilities over the next five years could include a group camp- <br /> ing area with shelter and sanitary facilities and additional nature, <br /> hiking and cross-country ski trails. Coordinate with the Village of <br /> Mazomanie in the planning for this park and the Village's Lions Park <br /> as well as for future acquisitions. <br /> B. RESOURCE AREAS <br /> The county's resource areas provide more assive recreational eational opportuni- <br /> such as hiking and biking, and emphasize the protection of the <br /> specific resource. Public access to these areas is often limited to defined <br /> trails. Some of the county's resource areas do include land uses that aren't <br /> 34 <br /> LER/NE 2 <br />
