Payne & Dolan, Inc. E-13
MEMORANDUM
Date: June 20. 1997
•
To: Bill Buglass
Regional `tanager
From: Clint Weninger Ct
Geologist
Subject: Herfel Site - Dane County
Attached are the test results for the Herfel Property that was tested during April and June 1997.
The property is located in the Southeast Quarter of Section 28 of the Town of Verona. Dane
County.
Testing utilized three methods: 9" percussion hammer drilling. 3.5" continuous split spoon
sampling, and backhoe digging. Approximately S'± of overburden lies on top of the sand R:
gravel. Under the overburden, there is 5' of sand & gravel above the water table and a minimum
of 25' of sand R, gravel below the water table. More gravel may be available below the water
table depending on the method of extraction. Many sand samples were taken for sieve analysis.
The split spoon samples are more coarse than the percussion hammer samples because of the
differences in the testing methods. The attached sieve analysis indicate potential for good quality
construction grade sands.
This site contains a significant amount of sand & gravel. approximately 5-7 million tons.
depending on the method used to extract the material and the ability to obtain permission to
excavate material within the floodplain and within the DNR setbacks from Badger Mill Creek.
If you have any questions and/or need additional information. please let me know.
•
