R.G. HUSTON COMPANY, INC. Cottage Grove Wo cons n n53527
608-255-9223
Fax 608-839-5936
MEETING MINUTES
DATE: January 7, 2000
TIME: 11:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
PLACE: R.G. Huston Company Office Building and Skaar Quarry
RE: Skaar Quarry Drainage Problem due to New 12/18 Construction
ATTENDING:
Curt Hulterstrum, PE—HNTB
Rob Montgommery, PE—Montgommery and Associates
Dennis Richardson, Engineer—R.G. Huston Company
Dwight Huston, Secretary/Treasurer—R.G. Huston Company (just at site visit)
Rob and I met at 11:45 to discuss what RGH wants to get from DOT (HNTB).
Ultimately we want a time extension to mine more material to be able to pay for the
pond's design and construction. We would like a letter from DOT (HNTB) stating the
information that they will provide us and the time frame that it will take to accomplish it.
RGH's best scenario would be to have HNTB do a drainage study for the 12/18 water and
the Skaar pit site water and size a detention pond accordingly. When Curt showed up at
12:15 p.m. he felt this might be asking to much of the DOT. He said that there was not a
proper drainage study for what ever reason (his hydrology department was not the original
department that designed the job and was not involved in the contract talks—that was
there highway department). Curt and Rob went back and forth on what should have been
done and what should be done now. Both agree that there looks to be a significant change
in drainage in the NW corner of the 12/18 and Hwy N interchange due to impermeable
surfaces, increased slopes and channelized water flow. A site review was done with
Dwight riding along too. Curt will take this info back to his office and get back in touch
with us. I will try to call him in a week and ask him for the time frame letter. I will let
Rob know the progress.
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
