\\\\\\\\\\111 I 1 111////
Wisconsin Department of Transportation
/0111100
TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT 1
March 30, 1999 2101 Wright Street
Madison, WI 53704-2583
Telephone (603) 246-3800
HELEN JOHNSON CHAIR Fax E031 246-799E
DANE COUNTY ZONING & NATURAL RESOURCES
210 MLK JR BLVD RM 201
MADISON WI 53709
Dear Ms. Johrfson:
RE: CSM for Willie Keuler
STH 19 - Indian Lake
Dane County
In my letter of March 17 to Kevin Ketterson, I stated that the sight distance for the proposed
town road at best met minimum standards. This was based on the best information my staff
had regarding the proposed location of the town road. On Thursday, March 19, my staff had
a chance to review the site, meet with Mr. Keuler to determine the exact location of the
proposed road and remeasure the sight distance based on the established location. This new
location moved the town road approximately 100 feet further east from the first location we
reviewed. The new location has improved the sight distance to where it slightly exceeds the
minimum required distance. We would prefer to have the sight distance meet our desirable
requirements, however we have stated to Mr. Keuler that we would approve his certified
survey Map (CSM) and a new town road based on the following:
1) That Mr. Keuler move the driveway serving the farm buildings on the south side of Hwy.
19 to a location opposite the new town road.
2) That a de-acceleration lane be built for westbound vehicles wishing to turn onto the new
town road.
3) That Mr. Keuler remove the existing driveway that lies on the north side of Hwy. 19 and
lies approximately 100 feet west of the new town road.
The next step in the process would be for the Town of Berry to apply to WisDOT for a
permit to work on highway right-of-way for purposes of constructing the town road. This
permit must be made out in the Town's name and signed by an appropriate town official.
The Town must also submit a copy of an approved resolution approving the new town road
and agreeing to maintaining it once it is constructed and opened to traffic. A set of plans
must be submitted with the permit detailing the town road width, turning radius, pavement
DT1154
