Dane County ZNR Committee (continued)
wetland drainage and road ditching which expanded the watershed area, greater
surface runoff is reaching the lake. Constructing year round homes and the
associated impervious surfaces will exacerbate the high surface runoff problem.
3. Contaminated Surfacewater: A large construction site near the lake has the
potential for causing damaging sediment and phosphorus runoff. Following the
construction phase, impervious surfaces will continue to contribute contaminated
stormwater.
4. Contaminated Groundwater: Since the USGS had determined that the prevailing
groundwater flow is from east to west, septic systems and holding tanks could
threaten a valuable source of spring flow to the lake.
5. Shoreline Development: Since the primary reason to purchasing lake frontage is
private access to the resource, it is likely that the property owners will want piers for
boat dockage and shore angling. Extensive piers will Butter the shoreline and destroy
spawning and nursery habitat for fish such as largemouth bass.
cc
Topf Wells Dane County Executives Office
Brian Standing Dane County Zoning Office
Ron Grasshoff WDNR SCR Water Reg.
Bruce Moore WDNR SCR Environmental Engineer
Jim Leverance WDNR Lakes Management
