•
glaringly contrast with the surroundings. Without significant extra expense, a
residentially compatible appearance is easily attainable. The building must have
eaves or soffits, of the same depth as the existing house.
d. Exterior finish materials also are critical to the appearance. Shingle
roofing to match the house, and wall siding to match that of the house (not
enameled metal roof or sides) should be required.
e. It is the stated intention of Mr. Keyes to have two large vehicular
doorways in the new structure, so that he can drive through without reversing his
equipment. These garage doors should face his existing driveway, and not
Spring Rose Circle.
f. Driveway access to the new structure should branch off his existing
driveway, and not involve a second opening onto Spring Rose Circle.
g. The existing house has a 24 ft. setback from the lot line shared with the
property next door at 2456 Spring Rose Circle. The new structure should not
encroach closer than 16 ft. to this same lot line.
I am aware that others in our neighborhood have considerably stronger
objections of the construction of a "pole barn"-type machinery shed in such an
exposed location on our residential street. As I share a property line of several
hundred feet with the proposed Conditional Use site, I feel very directly affected.
I do wish to accommodate the needs of all my neighbors, including those of Leroy
Kahl to sell his property, and of Dan Keyes to make a living. Mr. Keyes has given
his personal assurance that he will not engage in storage or application of toxic
chemicals as part of the business use of this property, and I would ask that the
Conditional Use Permit so stipulate. I feel that if Dan Keyes will build
considerately, there is every prospect for a harmonious entry into our circle of
dwellings. But I do feel very strongly that without these conditions, the new
building could be a striking eyesore and a long-term source of ill feeling in the
neighborhood.
Thank you for your consideration!
Richard Owens
