DANE COUNTY ZONING AND NATURAL RESOURCES COMMITTEE
OCTOBER 21, 1997
SUPPORT PETITION B95B, ROBERT JOHNSON,
FOR AREA ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
1. The proposal adds twelve and one-half (12.5) acres of C-1 Zoning to
an existing C-1 zone, allowing a viable commercial operation to be
located on the Johnson property.
2. The proposal would allow for creative reuse of a "rural Brownfield"
remaining after a tragic fire.
3. The owner's plans will compliment and augment the Cambridge area
retail economy.
4. The proposed development will create an aesthetically pleasing
balance to the automobile salvage yard across Highway 18. It will
be a much better gateway to the Cambridge area than the salvage
yard.
5. The development proposes an appropriately rural atmosphere
which will blend in well with the countryside. It is consistent with
the approved Town plan and has strong support from the Town.
6. The development will not convert productive farm land, but will
allow productive use of a former farmstead that economics
dictate will not remain a farm home.
7. The owner is willing to agree to reasonable covenants to narrow
the focus of the C-1 zone appropriately.
