Sate of Wisconsin Section 77.82(3). Wis. Stats.
Dettment of Natural Resources Managed Forest Lands Form 2450-132A Rev. 1-92
STEWARDSHIP FORESTRY PLAN Page of 'T
Order #
Stand I Oak & Central Hardwoods , Sawtimber/Poletimber , Stocking
Medium to light , 5 Acres
Description
This is a mature to overmature stand of oak and central hardwoods
sawtimber , of light to medium stocking . A secondary stand of
central hardwoods exists in the under'story. There is little tree
regeneration in the understory due to a heavy shrub layer of native .
and exotic shrubs .
Recommendations
Maintain the healthy overstory trees for seed to restock the stand
and to maintain habitat . A light timber harvest is possible for
"home use products . Maintain den trees . Remove exotic shrubs
such as buckthorne and boxelder by cutting and treating with herbi-
cide . Augment natural regeneration by planting seedlings such as
walnut , red and white oak , and possibly some white pine and sugar
maple . Prune the best , young walnut and oak for future timber
quality. Develop a trail system thruought the property, including
this stand , for access and recreational uses .
Manditory Practices
Removal of exotic shrubs and planting of seedlings, .
Optional Practices
Timber harvest , planting of conifers , and development of the
trail system.
Stand 2 Central, Hardwoods/Pole Timber, Stocking Light , 3 Acres
Description
The main species in the stand include black oak , aspen , boxelder
and hickory . The soils are marginal for timber production due
to poor drainage (Virgil Silt Loam) . A fair stand of black oak
pole-timber occurs in a few areas . The understory contains heavy
shrub growth , including sumac , honeysuckle and willow.
Recommendations
Due to the size and soil limitations of the stand , manage for
wildlife habitat . This will include the removal of some exotic
trees and shrubs such as boxelder and sumac , and planting winter
cover of evergreens , such as white cedar and Norway spruce .
These are optional practices , and can be done as time and resourceF
nermit . Continue the trail system to and through this stand .
