•
•
WRITTEN STATEMENT
In accordance with the requirements for filing a petition to rezone land in Dane County, the
following is a statement of the intent and purpose behind the rezoning request, and an
explanation of the reason such rezoning is required:
The purpose for this request from agricultural to residential (RH-2) is to enable the heirs
of the Norbert Hornung Estate, more specifically, Laureen Heisig and Cecilia Hornung,
the decedent's sisters, to maintain the land as farm use, without the necessity in having to
maintain the house and outbuildings. The Hornung sisters wish to keep the land in the
Hornung name, however are unable to maintain the upkeep of the outbuildings. As
Cecilia Hornung is in the nursing home and Laureen Heisig resides in Columbia County,
Wisconsin, it is not feasible for them to be able to maintain the buildings in the manner in
which they should be kept. The zoning change would allow them to sell off the residence
and outbuildings along with 5.51 acres, while maintaining the surrounding farmland for
agricultural purposes. The farmhouse has been vacant since Norbert Hornung's death,
almost Two (2) years ago, and while there is some physical depreciation which has
occurred to the house, at this point, it is still in an average condition which would make it
feasible to sell to a family.
The proposed property which is being requested to be re-zoned from agricultural to
residential is located a couple miles southeast of Sauk City. The area is predominately
working farms and vacant lands, with some single family housing intertwined. The
reason for the requested rezoning of the property is that such zoning change would allow
the sale of the homestead or farmhouse and outbuildings, along with 5.51 acres of land,
and would further allow a family to reside in the area while working on a nearby farm.
