k L
SEP - 5
19.96
5 September, 1996
D.C.PLANNING&DEVELOPMENT
PROPERTY RECORDS
u
Jim Gregorius
James Van Durzen
Dane County Planning&Development
Zoning Division
Room 116 City County Building
Madison,WI 53709
Reference: Petition#6698 Cup#1363 Hearing Date 9-17-9
Dear Mr. Gregorius & Mr. Van Durzen:
I am very concerned about the proposed changes to the land up the street from my house,
that boarders on Nygard and Sundstrom Streets.The capital view heights neighborhood,
and my family have reservations as to how this zoning change could and will effect the
quality of life in our neighborhood.
My husband and I decided to move to the near south side for many reasons: it is a close
commute to the.University for my husband, and downtown to work for myself; It is an
older neighborhood-with all walks of life and cultures; it feels like you are in the country,
when you are in the city; and yes, for a young married couple, it was a way for us to go get
our feet in the door as homeowners.
The main reason we moved into our neighborhood is because it is practically the only
neighborhood in our community where people from all cultures are homeowners,not just
renters. It is a community of people who want to stay put.There are people who have lived
in our neighborhood as homeowners for nine years or more, and renters who have been
there for 3-5 years who are now buying homes in our community.
My concern is that with more trailer park space,we are moving backward- dooming our
neighborhood to go down hill, instead of making positive changes. I would prefer those
lots be used to build small houses,for families that want to continue to make our
neighborhood strong. The county needs more culturally mixed neighborhoods that work;
and this is one of them. Personally, I would like to see the whole trailer park move;
because it is where the problems in our neighborhood come from. These include excessive
speeding where many children live, and there are no sidewalks or yield signs, late night
noise disturbances,littering of alcohol bottles and other rubbish,and drug dealing.
-1-
