PLANNING a `" "L
210 Martin Luther King Jr.Blvd ZONING
Madison,WI 53703
Subject: Wetland Determination- SE1/4, SE/14, Section 5,Town of Burke
Dear Mr.Bindl:
On May 3,2001,I inspected property located at the SE 1/4, SE 1/4, Section 5,Town of Burke,Dane
County. The purpose of my inspections was to assess the wetland boundary as depicted in the drawing
attached.
The property contains a diverse population of wetland and upland plant species. I am assuming the
boundary shown on the map corresponds to a 1-foot drop in grade on the property. Presumably filling at
some point in the past created the uplands on this site. However,it would not be appropriate to assume
the wetland follows the edge of this fill line. The following wetland species were observed between the
roadway and the edge of the fill line;bristly sedge, prairie cordgrass, horsetail, tall sunflower, red osier
dogwood and reed canary grass. Based on my inspection, it appears the actual wetland edge undulates
along the fill line on a diagonal in the same general direction as the one shown on the attached drawing.
I am recommending that the owner of the property have an official wetland delineation conducted prior to
development or zoning decision. The wetland delineation is necessary to ensure the owner doesn't
inadvertently fill wetlands and violate recently promulgated state statutes in the process.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact me at(608)743-4820.
Respectfully,
Mike Halsted
Water Management Specialist
Lower Rock River Basin
(608)743-4820
cc: Bill Sande—COE
Jim Gregorius—Dane County Zoning
Kevin Connors—Dane County LCD
Kamran Mesbah—Dane County RPC
www.dnr.state.wi.us Quality Natural Resources Management
www.wisconsin.gov Through Excellent Customer Service
PrMW on
Recycled •
Paper
