The maintenance includes having any treatment tanks inspected and,if necessary, pumped
by a properly licensed plumber or septic waste pumper. Pumping a tank is required if the amount of sludge or
scum in the tank exceeds 1/3 of the liquid volume of the tank. The properly licensed professional must also
make an observation of the existing soil absorption area and report any signs of system failure.
Dane County Code ch 46.11(5)requires that a signed report documenting this maintenance be sent to this
office on or before its due date. Your system maintenance report is due by September 2,2011 . You
should schedule to have your system inspected prior to this date in order to get the report submitted on
time. The report form to be completed is located on the back of this letter. We suggest that you consult
the yellow pages of the phone book for the names of these professionals in your area if you are not aware of
someone that can perform this inspection for you. The maintenance must have been performed less than 18
months prior to the due date in order to satisfy the requirements of the program. Older reports may be
accepted depending on the circumstances, please call for more information.
The annual septic system maintenance fee of$8.67 is no longer collected with these maintenance reports.
This fee is now collected on your property tax bill.
Please return the completed report from (located on the back of this letter)to this office no later than
September 2,2011. No payment is due with this report.
Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me
at 242-6515.
Sincerely,
John Hausbeck
Environmental Health Division Supervisor
