REZONING APPLICATION
#5 WRITTEN STATEMENT FOR REZONING LAND APPLICATION
We purchased our one hundred acre farm in the Town of Blue
Mounds 50 years ago. We lived on the farm and raised our family
there. In addition to farming, the land was used as a landing
strip for area pilots and a portion was sold to the Mt . Horeb
Cemetery Association. Several years later we purchased the
cemetery land back, unused, for the same price as the original sale
price . In 1972 and 1983 the Wisconsin Department of Transportation
(WisDOT) acquired land from us, which severed our farm and left
small and difficult parcels to farm.
In 1992 we sold off our house, farm buildings and 35 acres
located north of County Trunk Highway ID to Carroll and Sabina
Schumacher. WisDOT is now trying to sell off excess property
acquired when their right-of-way was purchased. WisDOT is going to
establish a "Park and Ride" lot and the remainder of the WisDOT
owned property will be sold to the highest bidder. WisDOT agreed
to give us the "right of first refusal" to purchase the excess land
for their appraised price . As of this date no price has been set .
WisDOT is in the process of rezoning their excess right-of-way from
A-1 (exclusive) to A-2 . (^r-,c3
The reasons for requesting rezoning of our property from A-1
(exclusive) to A-2 are as follows :
1) The remaining acres that we own form very irregular
fields which do not lend themselves to modern day
farming. Several parcels are landlocked.
2) The WisDOT has prompted action with a rezoning
request . Since their property is in the middle of
our field, we believe that our land, which
surrounds the WisDOT property, should be given the
same consideration.
3) In order for us to enter our landlocked property,
WisDOT has agreed to provide us with an easement to
establish a driveway over their property. This
will make it possible for us to use our land for
other options rather than trying to farm odd sized
and shaped farm plots .
4) The property is located at the intersection of
U. S .H. 18 & 151, S.T.H. 18 and C.T.H ID. It is the
major on-off interchange between Dodgeville and
Verona. Therefore, this land has high potential
for commercial uses .
At the present time we have no particular plans for
development, but through the years we have been contacted by
companies seeking to locate there . We acknowledge that presently
there is no public sewer or water available for development, and
that we would be required to "hook up" to these facilities once
they become available . Thank you for your consideration of our
request . Z //,, 7
/7, /9 ? 7
