(608) 767-3931
March 29, 1995
Zoning & Natural Resources Committee
Dane County
Room 116 .
City-County Building
Madison, WI 53709
APPLICATION TO REZONE LAND FROM Al TO Cl
We would like to rezone a parcel of land withi • r farm from Al to Cl for the
purpose of building a small bakery."T.: arm is ocat-d at 4035 Ryan Road in the
Town of Vermont, tax parcel num.-r 30-0706184900 4. The parcel lies within the
>cluster of existing buildings on th- farm, and • • - not include any tillable land. The
site would make use of the existing • -v-way and electrical service. If the rezoning is
approved, we would like to begin construction in August of 1995, with-the goal of
finishing in December, 1995.
The propos • a ildi•: ' • . . incl food processing area and residential
.space for .everal farm worker- including the bas er. For financial and logistical
reasons, w- - - to . • .or s residet-tlie farm. Consolidating these two •
functions in a single building is the most economical use of both our financial
resources and the land. The Town of Vermont Planning Commission has
recommended approval of the zoning change.
Cress Spring Farm has been producing organic fruits and vegetables since 1989, selling
directly to members of our CSA and at the Dane County Farmers Market. The bakery
would build on this success by using grains and produce grown on the farm, and by
distributing bread both through the CSA and at the farmer's market. There will be no
retail sales at the farm. We believe that the bakery will enhance the financial viability
of the farm by adding value to crops and extending the selling season, and is consistent
with the agricultural use of the land.
Thank you for your consideration. If you have questions for us, please call me at 257-
3649 or Roger Eischens at 767-3931.
Since ely,
Jef ord
Cress Spring Farm
•
