LePine, Parks Director
SUBJECT: Conditional Use Permit 1262 - Howard Lien and Sons,
Inc.
As Director of the Dane County Parks Department I am writing
to express my concerns about the C.U.P. No. 1262 . Area 3
of Cam-Rock County Park is located in Sections 14 and 23 of
the Town of Christiana, east of Highland Drive, directly east
of the Howard Lien and Sons, Inc. property. The proposed
C.U.P. 1262 would have a direct effect on Cam-Rock Park.
The development of the quarry will directly impact the
aesthetics and quality of the recreational experience of
those hiking, skiing and biking the Area 3 trail. This trail
has been in operation for more than 11 years in Cam-Rock Park
directly east of Highland Drive. If this C.U.P. is approved
a set back requirement of a 1000 feet with a berm of at least
8 foot tall, planted with evergreens a minimum of 6 ' tall and
irregularly spaced to provide a solid vegetative, sound and
visual buffer should be a condition of approval.
I am also concerned about the traffic on a year round basis
in front of the Area 3 entrance on Highland Drive to Cam-Rock
Park. Heavy loaded gravel trucks should not be allowed to
travel through the Village or past the entrance to Cam-Rock
Area 3 . Cam-Rock Park is open year round.
The drilled well at Cam-Rock Park is also a concern. Opening
up additional ground in the area and exposing the bedrock,
cracks and fissures could have a negative impact on shallow
wells.
4318 Robertson Road, Madison, Wisconsin 53714 (608)246-3896 FAX (608)246-3898
0
