COMPOSITE REPORT - Page 2 APPLICATION NO. 6347 - CUP 1262
STAFF COMMENTS
REGIONAL PLANNING
Petition 6347- CUP 1262. This proposed 190-acre limestone quarry raises a number of questions and
concerns. It is in a designated agricultural preservation area of the Town of Christiana where the
adopted town/county policy states: "Agricultural Preservation Areas shown on the Plan Map are to
protect farm operations for future production from encroachment of incompatible uses and help qualify
farmers for benefits of the Wisconsin Farmland Preservation Program."
The entire 190-acre site is productive farmland: 100%Class I and II Capability soils according to the
application and 100%Prime Farmland as defined by USDA. Converting the entire site to mineral
extraction use appears to conflict with the adopted policy, and no reclamation plan has been submitted
which could address re-use after extraction is completed.
Surrounding uses include: productive farmland to the west and north; several residences and the Cam
Rock County Park to the east;the Rockdale urban service area and the Wisconsin Power and Light
Switching Station to the south; and an existing limestone quarry to the southwest(parcel marked N.C.
on the map).
To provide a review consistent with other such applications, this application should include a written
description of the proposed operation including a time schedule of development and termination, a site
plan and a topographic reclamation plan as required by 10.191(2)of the Dane County Code of
Ordinances, or the Zoning Ordinance.
In addition to these basic elements, the description should also address:
Protection for the existing houses adjacent to the site.
Protection for the switching station from blast effects.
Magnitude and frequency of blasting.
Hours of operation.
Haul routes for trucks and equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH (septic, etc.)
DANE COUNTY HIGHWAY
No Comment.
OTHER
None.
