TO: The Town of Dunkirk, County of Dane, State of Wisconsin Committees ,
and Dane County Board, Committees and Commissions , and County Executive
FROM: THE TOWN OF DUNKIRK AND ADJACENT TOWN RESIDENTS AND PROPERTY OWNERS
(signatures below) represented by the Town of Dunkirk Environmental
Issues O rittee, -/homaS G. Reppen, Chair ( 873-8252 ) , and
William R. Drenkhahn, Secretary ( 873-1346 ) .
SUBJECT: Exclusion of township property for a "soil decontamination facility. "
WE, the undersigned residents of Dunkirk, or adjoining township(s) , County
of Dane, State of Wisconsin, hereby stipulate that all township lands be exclude
and specifically that township site located directly off Hwy 51E , adjacent to
the Hagen Farm (superfund site) , Town of Dunkirk, from decontamination or relate(
facilities. WE ask you prohibt the use of this site by GEO CLEAN, INC. , and/or
any other related facility whose purpose is to "clean contaminated soil" from
such unlimited sources as gas stations, foundries , railroads, truck terminals,
petroleum tank farms and the like for the following reasons:
1 . An UNLIMITED AMOUNT of heavy traffic from UNLIMITED COUNTIES AND STATES will
cause extremely unsafe and hazardous traffic to an already overcrowded
highway from Stoughton Trailers , transient trucking, and the asphalt plant.
2 . NOISE -- noise levels are unknown from such an operation, but any additional
noise from truck acceleration to deacceleration, and the proposed plant
would increase noise and decibels to intolerable levels for residents.
3 . ODORS -- The current asphalt plant already emits unacceptable odors and the
addition of decontaminant smells would provide an unbearable health and
environmental problem.
Overall , the proposed operation will decrease our quality of life , our property
values, and contribute to an even greater spread of environmentally unsound
practices and activities.
THEREFORE , WE encourage all elected and appointed government officials in
our township, our county, and our state to protect our iquality of life and our
property by rejecting this or any other like proposals for our area.
