OW Ilk
Wisconsin Department of Transportation
//IIIIIH TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT 1
2101 Wright Street
February 24, 1995 Madison, WI 53704-2583
Dane County Zoning Department
Mr. Lyman Anderson, Chair
Room 116, City-County Bldg t3 2 7 19
Madison, WI 53709
RECEiVEC
l'AIIAIn r
Subject: Zoning Petitions # 6175 and # 6179
Dear Mr. Anderson:
I have been contacted by Bob Plummer and Mike Bacon for the Town of Rutland and by Pat
Smith of Planning Associates last November in regards to the development in the area of these
petitions. While in general, the Department does not have concerns about the zoning itself, we
do have concerns relative to the impacts on our highway system. I had asked Mr. Smith to
strive to eliminate the plumber's drive so as to make it no drives from the frontage road to
Roby. Just this week I received a phone call from Mike Christopher representing the
petitioner(s) stating that the drive would remain and be used for only emergencies.
We have very serious concerns regarding the attitude expressed in this concept to keep direct
access to Highway 51 in place. I seems to me that more than likely, it will be used on a daily
basis. It also indicates that there is no total dedication to the total interior traffic pattern
expressed in the plan as presented.
Obviously this area is developing quickly and little time remains to adequately address critical
access issues. Any requirements imposed towards this end by the Zoning Board will be
appreciated.
I hope that this will assist you in your further deliberation.
Sir a - t+
Thomas'E. vans
Planning Supervisor
cc: J.
