Town of Primrose
Old JG Bridge Replacement- 2016
Project Narrative
The Old JG Bridge is located at the southwestern intersection of Old JG Road and
County Highway JG in Mount Horeb, and crosses over an un-named tributary to the
West Branch of the Sugar River.
This project includes removal of the failed concrete abutments and bridge slab
across Old JG Road, and installation of a 26-foot long, 7'6" diameter corrugated
metal culvert pipe with flared ends.
Construction will take place during a time of low-flow of the stream, and between
July 15th and September 15th of 2016. Excavation will be limited to the area
immediately around the bridge (being an area less than 1/10th of an acre),and
existing soils and vegetation will be disturbed as little as possible.
During construction silt fencing will retain run-off on sloped areas unprotected by
natural vegetation. A silt curtain will be installed across the tributary to restrict
downstream siltation.
The removed bridge will be disposed of off-site. Any soil stockpiles will be used
within 7 days, and any runoff to the waters of the State will be controlled.
The CMP culvert installation will entail placement and compaction of clean granular
fill, graded to meet existing ditch lines. Rip-rap will be utilized to stabilize slopes
and stream flow where necessary. Class III Type C Turf Reinforcement Mat (TRM)
will be placed in the stream channel down-stream from the culvert as needed to
control erosion. Side slopes above and below the culvert will be protected with
Erosion Control mat where possible, and with mulch where mat cannot be placed.
Both matted and mulched areas will be seeded as per standard.
