AL CZECHOLINSKI
Public Works Director
608-266-4018 Solid Waste Engineer/Hydrogeologist
608-266-4139
January 5, 1995
TO: Dane County Zoning
Town of Verona Board
Town of Verona Planning Commission
RE: Conditional Use Permit for Clay Soil Extraction
Dear Sir/Madame:
Dane County Public Works Department is hereby applying for a Conditional Use
Permit for the following parcel located in the Town of Verona:
The SE 1/4 of the SE 1/4 Section 11, T6N, R8E.
Dane County Public Works has been removing clay soils from the above property for
use at Dane County Landfill Site No. 1 (Verona) to construct a new clay cap for the
existing landfill. The 40 acre parcel that Dane County Public Works has purchased
(see attached map) was approved for use as a borrow site by the Town of Verona and
the Dane County Zoning and Natural Resources Committee during March 1994.
Because one of the conditions specified by the existing CUP (#1123) for this clay
borrow site required that project be completed during 1994, Dane County Public
Works is requesting a new CUP that will allow the work to be completed during 1995.
Work during 1994 at the Verona Landfill included reshaping and grading the entire 50-
acre top surface of the landfill and placing clay, cover soil and topsoil on
approximately 15-20 acres. Because all of the regrading work is now complete on the
landfill top and the access road and sedimentation basin are already in place at the
borrow area, progress in placing clay should proceed more rapidly during 1995. With
good weather, completion of all excavation at the borrow site during 1995 will be a
very realistic goal.
