The noise has disturbed our sleep, our meals, and generally our ability to enjoy our
homes and property as we did before the quarry was in operation.
WATER PROBLEMS
We have all had water problems to some degree that seem to be related to the blasting.
Some of us have had our water run "red" after blasting. Others have had problems
with barn watering systems not working correctly due to sand in the system after
blasting.
WATER QUALITY ISSUES
All of our homes are "downstream" from the quarry site. We are concerned that water
will be entering our aquifers without the benefit of it percolating through the topsoil
layers and being purified. We don't want our drinking water and water for our animals
to become unfit for use. As the size and depth of the quarry increases so do our
concerns.
We are also concerned that if the quarry site is further expanded it will require larger
amounts of fill material when it is reclaimed. The more material that is required the
more likely it is that toxic materials may find their way into the site and then into our
water.
The current application for C.U.P. #1217 is for a duration of 15 years and is
completely unacceptable to us. This operation started out as a small ag lime pit that
was operated only a few weeks a year. It then grew to a cement plant site for the 18-
151 construction project. None of us complained about that since it seemed to be
something to endure for the good of the community and the state. In the last year, it
has become a large scale quarry operation that was used for the Verona bypass, again
no one complained since it was for the 18-151 project. To have this large scale
operation continue past the current permit that expires March 26, 1995, seems unfair to
us.
All of the above issues affect the uses, values, and enjoyment of our property. Since
Dane County Ordinance 10.255 directs the Zoning Committee not to grant a
conditional use permit if the uses, values and enjoyment of other property in the area
are substantially impaired or diminished by the conditional use, we ask that the permit
not be granted.
(.)( ._ f,bkire.--
Y
, ,v, 44, , 4/jez, 440,,,Q._
cyt,,,,,,T, 0.),:xs,...44 4Y 1/
j , ; r,
