Introduction
Harbison Creek is a tributary of Token Creek located northeast of Madison,between Waunakee
and Sun Prairie, WI. The creek originates in wetland springs north of Highway 19 and flows
south through the property of John and Rose Mary Harbison,whose family has owned the
property for decades. The small creek conveys cold water through a wetland setting, and the
lower section supports brown and brook trout. The last 900 ft of the channel was excavated and
ponded in the 1930s, reducing fish habitat and likely allowing for some warming of the water
before it enters Token Creek. To enhance the trout fishery in Harbison Creek and at the mouth
of Token Creek, the landowners plan to reproduce a functioning channel in the existing ponded
reach and recreate a more natural wetlan d.
The goals of this restoration project include:
• Provide additional cold water habitat for resident salmonids
• Drain and fill the pond to provide more potential wetland area.
• Create a more aesthetically attractive stream corridor.
• Increase the accessibility to the stream and adjacent floodplain for residents.
• Improve aquatic habitat conditions.
The following preliminary design report details the methods used in data collection, analysis
tools used in design, and the general approach for design. This report is intended to establish
design criteria and to communicate the basis for design.
. „. ,/ ,_
► e `;
STATE MAP , €
r
°,, --- :Ftjr'.1"::: ,:i , 4:tr,/ :.
3[L5%A e
VICINITY MAP SITE MAP
Figure 1.
