Some concerns were raised by <br /> your committee and RPC staff regarding the County Highway K (Koch) site. We feel <br /> the Highway K site is a viable site for a school, but understand it could <br /> encumber a portion of land presently being used for farming/agricultural <br /> purposes. At the same time, the Board must replace the Springfield Elementary <br /> School, located on Highway 12. It is not possible to expand the existing <br /> Springfield Elementary school site to accommodate a 500 student capacity school. <br /> Safety is a major factor to consider with Highway 12. The Highway K site would <br /> be centrally located in the attendance area. The school district is not <br /> promoting or advocating residential development in proximity to the new school. <br /> The district is attempting to site a school in a location that best meets the <br /> needs of the students and parents in the attendance area. Our school district <br /> has a strong tradition and practice of a neighborhood school concept. We are <br /> requesting the opportunity to continue this practice through the approval of both <br /> Conditional Use Permit applications. <br /> The committee requested a copy of the ,preliminary wastewater system studies <br /> performed by Ayres Associates. We have attached a copy of the studies for use <br /> by the committee. <br /> Thank you for your consideration of our CUP applications. Representatives of the <br /> school district will be present at your August 23, 1994 work session to be <br /> available to answer any further questions you may have.
