component, surface erosion, surface discharge of effluent, internal ponding and effectiveness of surface water ,
diversion. All evaluations must be made by properly licensed individuals, and reports must be submitted io'
Dane County Environmental Health as specified in Dane County Code ch 46.11.
IV. LOAD AND REST SCHEDULES
A. Treatment Tank: No load/rest cycles unless specified by manufacturer or system design.
B. Outlet Filter:No load/rest cycles unless specified by manufacturer or system design.
C. Dosing Chamber:No load/rest cycles unless specified by manufacturer or system design. The dose volume
must be greater than or equal to 5 times the void volume of the distribution piping. The design plan includes a
rest cycle between dosing events.
D. Soil Dispersal or Treatment Cell:Rest cycles will occur between doses. Each dose must be a minimum of 5
times the void volume of the distribution piping. The design plan includes a rest cycle between doses.
V. SERVICING FREQUENCY REQUIREMENTS
A. Treatment Tank:The septic tank or other treatment tank serving the structure on this premises is designed to
accept domestic wastewater from a residential dwelling. The tank shall be maintained by an individual
certified to service septic tanks under s.281.48,Stats. The contents of the septic tank shall be disposed of in
accordance with NR 113,Wis.Adm.Code(Servicing Septic or Holding Tanks,Pumping Chambers,Grease
Interceptors,Seepage Beds,Seepage Pits,Seepage Trenches,Privies,or Portable Restrooms). The limits of
operation of this component are shown in article II.
B. Outlet Filter. The outlet filter shall be cleaned as necessary to ensure proper operation.. The servicing shall
be conducted by a properly licensed individual in accordance with ch.Comm 5. The filter cartridge must not
be removed unless provisions are made to retain solids in the tank that may slough off the filter when removed
•
from its enclosure. If the filter is equipped with an alarm, the filter shall be serviced if/when the alarm is
activated continuously. Occasional short duration filter alarms may indicate surge flows or an impending
continuous alarm.
C. Dosing Chamber: The dosing chamber and effluent pump serving this structure are designed to accept
wastewater from the primary treatment tank and distribute the sewage under pressure into the soil dispersal or
treatment cell. The tank, pump alarms and controls must be inspected at least once every three years.. The
inspection shall be conducted by a properly licensed individual in accordance with ch.Comm 5. Any solids
that pass into the tank must be removed and disposed of in accordance with NR 113,Wis,Adm.Code
(Servicing Septic or Holding Tanks,Pumping Chambers,Grease Interceptors,Seepage Beds,Seepage Pits,
Seepage Trenches,Privies,or Portable Restrooms). The pump and controls must be inspected whenever the
alarm is activated continuously,or if the pump is cycling due to drain-back of the dose volume.
D. Soil Dispersal or Treatment Cell: The soil absorption component's operation must be assessed by inspection
at least once every three years. The inspection shall include recording the levels of ponding,if any,in the
observation pipes, and a visual inspection for any evidence of surface seepage or discharge from the
component. The inspection shall be conducted by a properly licensed individual in accordance with ch.
Comm 5,and the report of findings shall be submitted•to the local unit of government responsible for the
administration of ch Comm 83 within 10 working days after the inspection. An inspection must also be
conducted if it is found that the effluent pump is cycling continuously. On steeply sloping sites, areas of
erosion must be identified and reported to the owner for repair. The surface discharge of domestic wastewater
or sewage from the system is prohibited and considered a human health hazard.
•
VI. INSTALLATION AND INSPECTION CHECKLISTS
See attached lists.
VII. EVALUATION,MONITORING&MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES-MECHANICAL POWTS COMPONENTS
A. Pump. The effluent pump shall be monitored and maintained as per the manufacturer's recommendations and
the system design plan. Evaluation shall include manually triggering the pump or siphon to assure proper
performance.
B. Alarm. The pump failure alarm shall be tested and maintained according to the manufacturer's
recommendations and the system design plan.
