DATE: September 27, 1994
TO: Dane County Zoning Committee
FROM: Joanne Broughton/Vera Lietz
RE: Petition #6045
There seems to have been some confusion at the public hearing regarding
whether this is part of a larger farm. At one time, this was an 80 acre
farm of which there is only 5.536 acres left. This has been in the family
for nearly 100 years.
Five years ago when my mother wanted to rezone this acreage and leave the
101/2 acres A-1 Excl. , Dane County Zoning and Regional Planning said this
was not A-1 Excl. as it was nonconforming and they were quite reluctant
in allowing this variance for A-1 Excl. Now, five years later, this is
now A-1 Excl. according to Regional Planning.
Recently, the Town of Albion had a reval done. At the time, the assessors
stated the reason for the 2 acres being assessed at68,000 was because it
was buildable and therefore higher assessed than the adjoining land which
was assessed much lower. If we are not able to build on this land, we are
paying extremely high taxes on worthless land which is not farmable or
buildable.
My parents have left this 2 acres to my son (their only grandson) in their
will. My mother decided to give this land to him while she was still alive
as he wanted to build a home and start a family next year and he could be
nearby to help her as her health is beginning to fail. If this zoning does
not go through and he is left to wait until she dies and then inherits this
2 acres, it will be totally worthless to him. He will not be able to build
or to sell it and use the money for collateral to build somewhere else yet
he will have to pay high taxes on land that cannot have anything done with
it. No land on Goede Road is prime ag land. In fact, it is the poorest
farm land around according the Soils Department.
We hope you will take into consideration this is poor land and that this is
being given to a family member so he will be able to have a small piece of
the original farm.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
