A
the day the blasts took place makes proof of violation of state
blasting codes impossible. The other issue was that they were
blasting with an overcast sky as noted by the log . This is against
good blasting practice according to DIHLR because it dramatically
increased the air shock wave associated with the blast . At 150
decibels we have learned the fracture of windows is likely. The
commission should be aware that in addition to the window that was
broken on our house, numerous incidents of neighbors replacing
windows can be documented . Also included is Dr . Tom Kratochwill ' s
letter to DIHLR stating that he had complained over a four year
period to Yahara
and nothing had been done.
After monitoring numerous subsequent blasts , DIHLR put Yahara on a
restriction to notify us personally 24-36 hours before the blast ,
and within a half hour of the shot detonation (see DIHLR 6\22\89
correspondence) . They have slipped to an either\or situation
relative to this notification.
As a final element to the record, we have included the letter of
objection that we submitted to the Springfield Town Board on 6\8\93
relative to the CUP for the temporary asphalt plant proposed for
the site .
Please take into account our problems in restricting the future
development of activities at the Yahara Quarry .
spectfully yours ,
Joseph J . pitz
Mary T. Spitz
6633 Greenbriar Rd.
Middleton, WI 53562
