COMPOSIT REPORT
APPLICATION # & /083
TOWN BOARD COMMENT:
STAFF COMMENTS
REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION (RPC).
CUP 1083. This is an active mineral extraction site. The site was approved in June 1993 to a hot-mix
batch plant, specifically for the State Highway 19 project.
Now the request is for a concrete batch plant site on a more or less permanent basis.
During the review and public hearing on the hot-mix batch plant, a number of issues were raised:
- There are a number of homes in the area. (Many of the residents opposed the hot-mix plant.)
- Groundwater concerns were expressed.
- Dust control was a concern.
- Additional truck traffic and turning movements on Hwy. 12 were a concern.
While there may not be the level of groundwater concerns with the concrete batch plant as there is with the
hot-mix plant, the other concerns appear to be equally valid. In fact, the additional truck traffic could be
compounded if the concrete plant is operating at the same time as the hot-mix plant.
If the action is to approve this for a concrete batch plant site, there needs to be some coordination of
conditions and truck travel times.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DEPT.
