Ahlgrimm Explosives - Ziegler Quarry
MAILING ADDRESS LOCATED AT(STREET ADDRESS)
P.O. Box 91 Highway 12
CITY STATE • ZIP CODE CITY COUNTY
Mineral Point WI _ 53565 Town of Springfield Dane
Ind. 3.18 SAFETY PROGRAMS. GENERAL-SURFACE AND UNDERGROUND (1) The employer shall establish a definite effective program
and continually funcitoning safety program and make every attempt to prevent accidents and increase safety. Employes shall actively participate
in the safety program.
NOTE ITEM CODE
SECTION
The following information was observed during monitoring of blasting
operations on May 8, 1989:
Peak Vibration Measurements - Transverse, Vertical , and Longitudinal
Peak Particle Velocities of 0.055 IPS at 14 Hz, 0.074 IPS at 11 Hz,
and 0.062 IPS at 11 Hz, respectively, were measured. The Peak
Vector Sum (or Resultant Peak Particle Velocity) was Os.09 IPS.
Transverse, Vertical , and Longitudinal Displacements of 0.00150 in. ,
0.00175 in. , and 0.00192 in. , respectively, were also observed.
Peak Sound was less than 110 decibels.
Shot Information -_This shot was composed of 5,016 pounds of
explosives loaded into 45, 3 inch diameter, 50 foot deep drill
holes, on an 8 foot by 8 foot pattern. The shot was detonated in a
single deck, with a maximum charge weight of 140 pounds per delay.
Weather at the time 'of the shot was 55 degrees F, cloudy skies, and
calm winds. No flyrock was observed outside the immediate blast
area.
As can be seen by the information plotted on the attached ILHR
Chapter 7, figure 7.64, the blasting resultant vibrations observed
fall well within the set limits.
Blasters Logs Examination - In addition to monitoring ground
vibration for the May 8 shot, Ahlgrimm Explosives' blasting logs for
work done at the Ziegler quarry were examined to determine the type
and maximum charge weights detonated. There were three shots during
the period April 17 to May 1 , 1989. The following is a summary of
that information.
IMPORTANT
• Please report when hazards are eliminated.
• Avoid delay.
• Keep us informed.
HAZARD ELIMINATION DATE SAFETY HAZARDS EXPLAINED TO: TITLE
Rich Bingham _ Blaster
BY MINE SAFETY SPECIALIST SAFETY& BUILDINGS DIVISION
Address all Correspondence Safety and Buildings Division, Mine Safety Section, Department of Industry, Labor
and Human Relations,P.O.
