• •
January 27, 1994
Town Of Burke Planning &Zoning,
Today, I had the opportunity to speak with Tom Bainbridge from the DNR...who
referred me to Steve Fixx, also of the DNR, who more specifically handles water
run-off and erosion. Steve was of the opinion that due to the size of the parcel and
nature of the operation the situation would not pose a toxic problem in the run-off.
He, none the less, advised me to seek an opinion from the Dane County Land
Conservation Dept.
Once at the Conservation Department, I met with conservation engineer-Craig
McCallum. We went over the scale drawing...which details the constructed area,
blacktop area and green area. Craig concluded to me that...while there are no set
standards governing run-off...he would in his expert opinion propose the following:
* Construct earth berms along the east and south lot lines-to
strategically direct water flowage.
* The two outside buildings (east and west) to have the roofs slanted
to unpaved area behind buildings...such that run-off would filter
through wash stone.
*All blacktop area between buildings will be channeled to grass area
in front..
40
* Grass area in front expanded to 37 feet deep.
* Blacktop itself will be raised above the grade of grass area...to create
a shallow holding area.
Based on Mr. McCallum's calculations, these provisions should more than
adequately handle normal rainfall and snow thaw. If you have any further
questions you can contact him at 266-4496.
Sincerely,
Tom Schultz
