• <br /> CAVE OF THE MOUNDS <br /> National Natural Landmark <br /> Dane County Board of Adjustment August 20 , 1992 <br /> Dane County, WI <br /> The Cave of the Mounds is requesting a variance on the distance <br /> from an intersection required to erect a sign. The specific <br /> location in question is the intersection of Highway ID and <br /> Highway F East (Cave Road) in the Town of Blue Mounds . <br /> The Cave has had a sign at this corner for many years . One year <br /> ago a big windstorm blew down this sign. We replaced it with a <br /> temporary sign , and now we must replace it permanently. Without a <br /> sign at this intersection , our visitors would not know where to <br /> turn to get to the Cave . Erecting a sign the required 300 feet <br /> from this intersection would situate the sign beyond the adjacent <br /> intersection of Cave of the Mounds Rd and Hy ID, the road most of <br /> our visitors take coming from Hy 18-151 . ( see attached map) <br /> The hardship we encounter in trying to meet current regulations <br /> is that it is impossible to direct traffic to the Cave without a <br /> sign at this intersection. Anyone who has ever traveled along <br /> this stretch of HY ID is familiar with the already hazardous <br /> situation .
