4827 Helgeland Drive
Sun Prairie, WI 53590
March 22, 1993
Chairman Lyman Anderson
Dane County Zoning & Natural Resources Committee
City-County building, Room 116
Madison WI 53709
Re: Rezoning Petition No. 5557 - Heinemann
Dear Chairman Anderson:
We are residential property owners who live directly across
from the proposed commercial property. Our property is zoned R1 .
This letter is written as a last desperate hope that some remnant
of good sense and fair play may stop this ill advised development.
Some brakes have to be put to the frontier thinking that a man can
do just what he pleases with his own property in a free enterprise
system and any opposition is meaningless . The Town Board totally
rejected the petition of just about every homeowner in the affected
area on the ground that the Heinemanns bought an adjoining burnt
out home which was historically zoned Cl and that they can do
anything they want to on the small lot, however, in the interest of
safety, it is necessary to annex the adjoining area (area proposed
to be zoned C1) so that the Heinemanns can do legitimately what
they are now doing illegally. Here the Heinemanns are rewarded for
breaking the law and more significantly, Bernie Heinemann lied to
your Committee that he was not conducting a business in violation
of zoning laws . When confronted with the fact that he was doing
business illegally, Bernie Heinemann admitted that it was time to
move the business away from his own home. Does downright perjury
before your Committee mean anything? Or, must we conclude that
everything is fair game in a free market economy?
We are concerned about our safety and of our children.
Commercial interest will open up the area and we do not have
adequate police protection. Children and traffic do not mix.
The school bus stops at Helgeland Drive and Highway TT at which
intersection the proposed trucking and commercial activity will
compete. We do not have sewer and fire hydrants . But the main
reason why we moved to the area was to live in a peaceful
residential area and the proposed commercial activity of the
Heinemanns is unfair to us who have lived there long before the
Heinemanns came. What about the rest of us? Do we count?
Please give us a break and deny the petition.
Respectfully submitted,
00A-ge_ bektA..-tal N-de
Telephone: (608) 837-3936 Joan & Donald Hue
