Zoning
RECEIVE
FROM: Kevin Connors 4 ' 29118 old
County Conservationist
RE: AL GRIFFITH PROPERTY - SW, SW, SEC. 5 - BERRY TWP.
An onsite visit was made on this property Tuesday, May 11, 1993. At present, the
road extending westerly from Old Settler's Road is in. The hilltop is levelled off and
it appears that fill from the hilltop was used for road fill. Drainage from the ridge
top currently goes to the north. According to Mr. Griffith, the plans are to continue
to direct the runoff to the north and along the road ditch. He currently has two
culverts underneath the roadbed to attempt redistributing the flows. None of the
disturbed area has been stabilized.
Mr. Griffith reviewed his plans of hauling in more fill from the ridge top to raise the
roadbed an additional 3 ft. to meet the 10% grade requirement.
Recommendations: As I discussed with Mr. Griffith, he should revegetate the area
as quickly as possible. All areas of channelized flow should be topsoiled, fertilized,
seeded and mulched, and protected by jute netting or excelsior blankets. It appears
in this case that plastic netting would not be appropriate. We discussed that all
disturbed areas should be seeded and mulched in late August - no later than
September, 15th. In addition, the culverts beneath the road, outlet several feet above
the ground. These outlets should be protected so that runoff can be handled in a
safe manner.
As with all projects of this type, maintenance of seeding establishment and culvert
outlets is critical.
K.C.
yr
cc: Al Griffith
