t Dane County Regional Planning Commission
mission
~4. I ; 217 S. Hamilton St., Suite 403, Madison, Wisconsin 53703-3238 Tel. 608/266-4137
on
L° 1J l U 1' MEMORANDUM
TO: Dane County Zoning and Natural Resources Committee
FROM: Thomas L. Smiley, Director '' -=
Community and Regional Development-Planning
DATE: June 22, 1993
RE: Petition 5670 - Town of Christiana
At the June 8 public hearing, our staff comments noted that this site is in an agricultural
preservation area and the density policy did not allow for the creation of additional parcels.
The Town's comments indicated that this was designated as a residential development area, and
therefore the petition is consistent with their plan.
The Committee asked that I recheck the plan to see what happened.
The map adopted by Dane County and included as a part of the Dane County Farmland
Preservation Plan clearly shows this site as an agricultural preservation area.
I have talked with Mr. Lien, the Town Chairman, who says they have a colored plan map which
clearly shows this area for residential development. He says several of the parcels had been
created at the time of plan adoption; therefore, they designated it for development. I cannot find
any file notes to confirm or refute the difference in the maps.
This is something that clearly needs to be corrected on the maps to insure town and county maps
are the same.
Action on this petition is a judgment call. The soils have lower agricultural productivity, and
therefore such a designation is not impacting productive farmland.
TLS:lel
RPC
