The request is on behalf of
owners Edwin and Albert Meier consistent with the enclosed purchase agreement.
Purpose
The rezoning purpose is to enable construction of a single-family residence
with one outbuilding suitable for storage and horses on a 28-acre tract
currently zoned A-1 Agriculture (exclusive) . The parcel contains about 5
acres of upland timber, 7 acres of lowland timber, 4 acres of grass and 12
acres of lowland cropland. The cropland contains sandy soil on a seasonally
high water table.
Current Use
The 28-acre tract is part of a 270-acre farming unit owned by Edwin and Albert
Meier which has been on the open market for the past few years. About half of
the ownership has been in corn and small grain production. The remaining half -
is wooded and is used for private hunting recreation.
The land was divided into 6, 40-acre parcels and one 30-acre parcel about a
year ago and listed for sale with Pyramid Realty. The subject 28-acre tract
resulted from the reduction of one 40-acre to satisfy the request of another
buyer (12 acres added to the 30-acre tract) .
The Department of Natural Resources has examined these lands at least twice
for inclusion in the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway, but they were never added
to the project.
Proposed Use
A potential homesite is located in the southeast corner of the 28-acre tract.
This site consists of an upland, wooded escarpment about 100 feet above the
S00-year floodplain of the Wisconsin River. Access is by way of a 33-foot
strip of land extending eastward 1,320 feet to the Beckman Road.
