'fly, Dane County Planning & Development
' Division of Zoning
Joe Parisi
Dane County Executive
May 23, 2016
Mary Jane Vosen
4622 Rocky Dell Rd
Middleton WI 53562
RE:Navigability Determination—SW quadrant Koch Rd& Bronner Rd, Section 5, Town of
Middleton
Parcel: 0708-052-8501-6 DCPWTR-2016-00003
The Dane County Zoning Division is in receipt of your request for a navigability determination
for an unnamed intermittent stream that begins in the southwest parking lot of Sunset Ridge
Elementary School and drains west and north as it crosses your property located in the southwest
quadrant of the intersection of Koch Rd and Bronner Rd.
Before conducting the site inspection, the 24K U.S.G.S. Topographic map and Dane County GIS
was used to determine the categorization of this waterway. The map shows that there is an
intermittent stream that may be located on the property. An intermittent stream is one that has a
periodic or recurrent flow. During my field inspection I observed that the parking lot of Sunset
Ridge Elementary school drained to a basin with an outfall to the northeast. At the point that any
discharge reaches the cultivated agricultural land it is diffuse and there is no evidence of a
defined bed or bank.
After further review of the waterway, it has been determined that this intermittent stream is NOT
navigable from its origin west to a point of intersection with Ellington Way. It should be noted
that while this is not a navigable stream, portions of it may act as constructed drainage and future
development should be designed to handle the runoff from the drainage area. It should also be
noted that portions of this mapped stream and property include hydric soils which are an
indicator of the presence of wetlands. Further investigation into the presence of wetlands may be
required depending on future development plans.
This letter serves as notice that the future development that will occur on the above-described
property is NOT within the Shoreland Zoning District as defined under Chapter 11, Dane County
Code of Ordinances.
I hope you find this information helpful. If you have any questions regarding this matter, or if I
may be of further assistance, please feel free to call me at(608)266-4993.
210 Martin Luther King Jr.Blvd.•Room 116,City-County Bldg.•Madison,WI 53703-3342•Phone:608.266.4266•Fax:608.267.1540
www.countyofdane.com/zoning
