DANE COUNTY 57 Fairgrounds Drive
LAND CONSERVATION Madison WI 53713-1413
COMMITTEE PH: (608) 266-4270
February 7, 1992
John Neath
1289 County Rd BB
Deerfield WI 53531
Dear Mr. Neath:
On January 31, 1991, we met at your farm to discuss surface runoff
and gully prevention.
In review, practices needed before any drainage modification
occurs include:
- A grass waterway to safely convey surface runoff to a stable
outlet at a non-erosive velocity. During vegetation
establishment, divert water from the channel, or install mulch
or netting to prevent scouring of channel. The vegetation must
be well established before flows are allowed to enter the
channel.
- A structure may be necessary to safely drop water into the
existing ditch to prevent formation of gullies. This could be
either a rock or sod chute depending on size of the watershed
and amount of drop.
Any practice installation shall meet the Soil Conservation Service
standards and specifications.
If you need any additional assistance, contact me at 608/266-4993.
Duane Wagner
Conservation Technician
yr
Enc.
