Fleck
Zoning Administrator
Room 116, City-County Building
Madison, WI 53709
Dear Bill:
On behalf of Dane County, we are requesting a conditional use permit for the parcel of land located in
the Town of Westport with the legal description attached.
The tax parcel number for this approximately 27 acres is 33-0809-232-9000-8.
This land is presently zoned R1 single family, but has been used for cropland for several years.
The County's proposed use for the parcel would be as a dredge spoils site. We anticipate 100,000 to
200,000 cubic yards of top soil to be placed on this land from an approximately two mile dredging
project on the Yahara River. The topsoil would either be sold or leveled off and the land could be
returned to approximately within 4 feet of its original condition.
We anticipate doing the engineering work, obtaining permits and approvals and arranging all financing to
allow for late summer bidding on this project. This would enable us to have the actual dredging in early
fall, an opportune time to avoid fish spawning, seasonal low water and other natural phenomena.
Our proposed property is very suitable for a dredge spoils site because of its close proximity to the
dredge area, the good soils for berms, willing seller at a reasonable price, and nice topography for
containment area and natural drainage.
Sincerely,
DA COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
John Schraufnagel
Assistant Director
mb
