11011 Wisconsin Power & Light Company
Proposed Use of Land
This property will be used to construct an electrical substation to supply the
existing and future energy needs of the Town of Dunn, Village of McFarland, and
surrounding areas. The substation transforms high voltage power down to low
voltage power which is used to serve these communities. This area is currently
being served by a substation in McFarland. This substation; due to continued load
growth from new housing starts, both rural and urban, as well as new
commercial load; is becoming inadequate to provide reliable service to this area.
The McFarland substation will experience capacity limitations as well as low
voltage problems, both of which can cause service interuptions, if the current
rate of load growth continues. This new substation will allow us to take some of
the load off of the existing substation and in addition will improve our
reliability of service in contingency situations since each of these substations
will be able to back up the other.
In addition, a gravel driveway will be constructed from Highway 51 to the
substation site.
Schedule for Development
The development of this land is scheduled to begin in April of 1992 with
expected completion to be in June of 1992. Grading of the site would begin as
soon as weather permits in the spring. Foundations and fencing would be
installed next followed by the installation of the equipment and steel
structures.
Landscaping is scheduled for the fall of 1992, most likely in September, to take
advantage of weather conditions.
