Dane County Land & Water Resources Department
Administration • Land Conservation • Office of Lakes&Watersheds• Parks • Water Resource Engineering
?sCUKS Kevin F.Connors,Director
June 13, 2016
Dane County Planning and Development
Room 116
City-County Building
Madison, WI 53703
Floodplain Development Permit DCPFLO-2016-00007
Sugar River Pedestrian Bridge
Town of Montrose, Section 3
The proposed pedestrian bridge will cross the Sugar River at Falk Wells Wildlife Area. It will replace an
existing concrete flat span bridge that has become unsafe. The plan conforms to Dane County Code of
Ordinance, Chapter 17, Floodplain Regulations.
The current FEMA base flood elevation is approximately 912.25' according to FEMA FIRM panel
number 55025C0558G. The new pedestrian bridge will have a low chord of the bridge at approximately
908'. Compared to the existing bridge, the new bridge will have an approximately 66% larger cross
section. We expect no adverse impact to the regional floodplain.
The following conditions were considered in the design:
• This development shall not obstruct flow, defined as development which blocks the conveyance
of floodwaters by itself or with other development, causing any increase in the regional flood
height; or cause any increase in the regional flood height due to floodplain storage area lost.
• Bridge shall be designed and constructed to have a low flood damage potential.
• Adequate flood proofing measures shall be provided to the flood protection elevation.
The attached map provides a site location of the bridge, including contour elevations. Dane County
Water Reso - 'n;sneering has reviewed this plan and are providing their approval.
Sinc- ely,
®' firP
Jeremy B. ouse
Division Manager
Water Resource Engineering Division
Lyman F.Anderson Agriculture&Conservation Center
5201 Fen Oak Drive,Room 208,Madison,Wisconsin 53718-PH:608/224-3730,FAX:608/224-3745
www.countyofdane.com/lwrd
