Livingston, AAE fig,/
Deputy Airport Director -
Operations and Facilities
DATE: January 29, 1991
The Dane County Regional Airport objects to Conditional Use
Permit Application Number 900, concerning the approval of
residential quarters on commercially zoned property.
Presently, the airport is completing an intensive Master Plan
update and noise-land use compatability study. A public hearing
is scheduled for February 20, 1991, to receive public comment on
recommendations derived from the planning effort. Upon
completion of the public hearing process, the plan is submitted
to the County Board for adoption.
A major recommendation component is the construction of a new
runway and preservation of adjacent property north of the
airport. This is designed to lessen the noise impact of the
surrounding community. Therefore, the property in question in
C.U.P App. #900 is scheduled to be acquired by Dane County.
The airport's noise abatement policy which will be strengthened
by Master Plan/Noise Study is to direct air carrier or turbo jet
traffic to the north to reduce, when feasible, the resultant
impact of noise on the developed residential community south,
west, and east of the airport.
In summary, the allowance of residential activity adjacent to the
airport is contradictory to the airport's Master Plan/Noise Study
and existing noise abatement policy. It is vital for the success
of our policy for the committee to prohibit residents in this
location.
eh
rj3y. 99t
cc: J.
