Box 45
130 SOUTH PARDEE STREET r' =—' MARSHALL WISCONSIN 53559
-• r (608) 655-4017
OF h)GE C
•
April 9, 1991
To: Mr. Dennis Volpe
5691 Oak Park Road
Marshall, WI 53559
Frp, : Superintendent of Utilities Marshall, WI
Subject: Operation Well located at Quarry off Oak Park Road operated by
Wingra Stone
On March 26th, 1991 I was informed of a well to be drilled and operated at
the above location. After reading the provisions of the conditional approval
of operation of the well by the DNR, I made a visit to the site.
I met with the site foreman of Wingra, informed who I represented and
reason for visit. At that time I was told well was not being used and that
I would be notified when well was in operation to enable me to check
any significant drop in the pumping level of the village's wells.
I walked over to site of well to inspect. At this the pump was in
operation. I then left to check my pumping levels.
I waited to hear from Wingra without response until April 2nd, 1991.
At this I revisited the well site on my own initiative. With the foreman
escorting to the site of well. At this time found two violations of the
condition use approval of well. These violations were:
1. No metering or timing device to determine amount being pumped.
2. A cross connection being the discharge of well pump half
submerged in wash water.
After noting these violations I went back to office, and notified
Robert W. Schaefer, Private Water Supply Section of the D.N.R. about
the two violations. He said this problem would be taken care of promptly.
Stephen Swiggum
/
SS/ce
