DANE COUNTY APPLICATION FOR REZONE Item No. : 26. S7 IC77 N
Zoning Petition i 3487 D.R. al State of WI - D.N.R. to _g--"-''_ -- k t.
Location: 4887 Wakanda Drive Se ction 33, SW Town Westport Area: 2.7
more or less Acres
Proposed use: Amend D.R. to permit laboratory D ED. No.
ANALYSIS:
CONCERNS EXPRESSED AT/AFTER PUBLIC HEARING:
STAFF COMMENTS;
R.P.C. - Petition 3487 DR, CUP 803. This building was originally a camp head-
quarters; and, since it was purchased by DNR as part of Governor Nelson
State Park, it served for several years as Southern District Headquarters
for DNR. There were 40-50 DlstrIct employees then, with 30-35 involved
In this proposal . The building is currently vacant , with park land to
the west and north, with many single family homes along the shore to the
south and east .
It is not currently in the central urban service area. A sewer runs down
the street and the houses are connected; however , this building Is not
connected to our knowledge.
The current deed restriction limits the use as a recreational facility.
If the intent is long-term laboratory use, there will need to be specific
conditions since this area Is basically a Lakeshore residential area,
with no plans for significant additional urban development . We under-
stand that a building addition is proposed primarily for laboratory use
involving fish aquarium, wet chemistry lab, biology lab and radioactiv-
ity, all of which are now done at the Fish Hatchery office.
From a public cost/public policy perspective, there Is rationale for
making use of this existing office building. However , that use should
not adversely affect the residential area or use of the surrounding state
park.
If a more intensive office/laboratory use Is to proceed, this building
should be added to the urban service and connected to public sewer prior
to proceeding with any plans for expansion.
E.H.D. - Petition 3487 No objection to this petition.
Co. Hwy. -
