Bartlett, Russell
From: Bartlett, Russell
Sent: Monday, December 29, 2008 11:09 AM
To: 'betz_3 @msn.com'
Subject: Pole shed too tall for R-1, Residence
Thank you for your application for a Dane County zoning permit for your new pole shed.
The zoning district classification for your property is R-1, Residence.
Section 10.05(3)(b)of the Dane County Code of Ordinances (DCCO) states that the maximum height of accessory
buildings shall not exceed twelve (12) feet in height.
Your plans show that the height of the building is 11 feet from the ground to the bottom of the roof overhang. Your plans
show that the height of the peak of the roof to the ground is 16 feet.
Section 10.01(8)of the DCCO states that the height of your proposed building is the average of the eave height and the
peak height.
In this case, the average of 11 and 16 is 13.5 feet. The calculation of the maximum average height is as follows: 16+ 11 =
27, 27/2 = 13.5 feet.
An application for a change of zoning district classification from R-1, Residence to A-1, Agriculture, and approval of that
petition, would allow your building as proposed.
A second option is to amend the height of your proposed building to meet the ordinance requirements. A peak height of 14
feet and an eave height of 10 feet would meet the ordinance requirements (14 + 10 = 24, 24/2) = 12, the maximum
average height permitted by Sections 10.05(3)(b) and 10.01(8) of the DCCO.
Also, please contact Mr. Norbert Scribner, the Dane County Land Division Review Officer, 608-266-9086,
scribner @co.dane.wi.us, about the land transfer that occurred between your lot, Lot 4, Pebble Valley, and Lot 5, Pebble
Valley. I would suggest that you request a parcel status determination that the land transfer met the requirements of
Chapter 75, Dane County Land Division & Subdivision Regulations, DCCO.
Thank you for your cooperation.
1
