The
land is owned by Dane County Parks. The land is part of Dane
County Badger Prairie Park, but there is no park development
planned for the near future. Consequently, the land is being
made available to Dane County Public Works for temporary use as a
yard waste compost site.
The land is currently being leased out tot an area farmer who has
been using it for alfalfa production. With the exception of
Badger Prairie Health Care Center and a private health care
center to the north of the proposed site, the land immediately
west, south and east is either used for agriculture or parkland.
Old Military Trail bike path passes the site to the south with
Badger Mill Creek further south. The nearest private residence
is located approximately 2000 feet to the southeast on County
Highway PB. Additional residences are located approximately one-
half mile to the north of the site on Cross Country Road. These
current land uses will not be affected by the proposed compost
operation.
